Martial Arts

Wing Chun Kung Fu

Wing Chun ("singing spring") is a concept-based martial art, a form of Southern Chinese kung fu, and a close-quarters system of self-defense. It is a martial arts style characterized by its focus on close-quarters hand-to-hand combat, rapid-fire punches, and straightforward efficiency. It has a philosophy that emphasizes capturing and sticking to an opponent's centerline. This is accomplished using simultaneous attack and defense, tactile sensitivity, and using an opponent's force against them.

I started practicing the style in 1999, last time I took the exam for level 9 in 2012 in front of Sifu Zoltan Juhasz (1 dan Kick boxing, 5th master level Wing Chun Kung Fu, Inosanto Kali and JKD instructor).

Jeet Kune Do

Jeet Kune Do ("way of the intercepting fist") is the interception of the opponent, making corresponding responses or counterattacks that strike at incoming attacks. JKD also incorporates a set of principles to help practitioners make instant decisions and improve the physical and mental self, being intended to have practical applications in life without the traditional routines and metaphysics of conventional martial arts. As an eclectic martial art, it relies on a fighting style heavily influenced by Wing Chun, taekwondo, boxing, fencing and jujutsu.

I was first introduced to Jeet Kune Do in 2015 during Sifu Zoltan Juhasz intensive instructor monthly training. In 2017 I successfully passed the exam to become an assistant instructor, then in 2019 I successfully passed the beginner and the advanced instructor and finally in 2021 the expert instructor level.

Inosanto Kali

Kali, also known as arnis or eskrima/escrima, is the national martial art of the Philippines. The three are roughly interchangeable umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippines, which emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks, knives, bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons, as well as "open hand" techniques without weapons.

I started practicing the Inosanto Kali system in the intensive instructor training program of Sifu Zoltan Juhasz in 2015. In 2017, I successfully passed the beginner instructor level, then in 2019 the beginner instructor level and finally in 2021 the advanced instructor level.

Panantukan

Panantukan is the boxing component of Filipino martial arts. It consists of upper-body striking techniques such as punches, elbows, headbutts and shoulder strikes. It also includes low-line kicks and knee strikes to the legs, shins and groin. This martial arts is not a sport but rather a street-oriented fighting system. The techniques have not been adapted for safety or to conform to a set of rules for sports competition. Common targets include the biceps, triceps, eyes, nose, jaws, temples, groin, ribs, spine and the back of the neck.

I started practicing the Panantukan within the Inosanto Kali system and obtained the beginner instructor certification in 2017, then advanced instructor certification in 2018, expert instructor certification in 2019 and master instructor certification level 1 in 2020.
